What kind of student thrives in this model?
This works well for pastors, leaders, and lifelong learners who want to connect their education directly to their ministry. It’s great for people who value mentorship, want to grow in real-life contexts, and are ready to take ownership of their learning.
The student meets with their mentor team. Together, they determine what the student might already know related to the class topic. Then, the student follows a learning plan (customized if needed to their context and experience) to complete learning experiences.
What's the advantage of subscription based pricing?
Students appreciate one, clear, simple payment each month. With the subscription, they get access to a massive learning library, the digital theological library, and a faculty mentor who guides the student and the mentor team. This also allows the student to move at their own pace and work on multiple things at once, slowing down when they need to really focus on a topic or speeding up when they already know something well.
What kind of student thrives in this model?
This works well for pastors, leaders, and lifelong learners who want to connect their education directly to their ministry. It’s great for people who value mentorship, want to grow in real-life contexts, and are ready to take ownership of their learning.
What support is available for me as a student?
In addition to your mentor team, you’ll have access to academic resources, spiritual support, and a wider learning community. You won’t be doing this alone—you’ll be part of a journey that’s rooted in relationship and guided by a community of fellow learners and leaders.
Tell me more about your approach?
Our approach is flexible, personalized approach to theological education that focuses on demonstrating real-world proficiency in key areas of ministry, rather than simply completing courses or earning grades. It’s designed to integrate spiritual formation, biblical and theological study, and practical leadership development in context.
How long does it take to finish?
That depends on your pace and how much prior experience or learning you bring in. Some students move quickly, others go slowly and steadily. The program is flexible and designed to work alongside your life and ministry.
Is this model approved and accredited?
Yes, ordination courses are approved by Education and Clergy Development at the Wesleyan Church Headquarters and meet the education requirements for credentialing in The Wesleyan Church (this approval is through the Eastern Zone of the PSW District). Degree programs through Kairos University are accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The MDIV (through Evangelical Seminary at Kairos University) is an ordination-track degree program approved by the General Board of The Wesleyan Church.
Do I have to take traditional classes?
Not necessarily. Learning happens through a variety of experiences—books, conversations, fieldwork, retreats, reflection, and more. You’ll create a plan with your mentors that fits your goals, calling, and learning style.
How does mentorship work?
You’ll build a small team of mentors who meet with you regularly, provide feedback, ask reflective questions, and guide your development. They’re not just academic evaluators—they’re companions in your journey of discipleship and leadership.
What if I’m already doing ministry—can this count?
Definitely. One of the key strengths of our program is that it values what you're already doing. You’ll reflect on your current ministry work and, in many cases, use it as the foundation for demonstrating your growth and learning.
Is this model academically rigorous?
Yes. It requires you to demonstrate deep understanding and practical application of key concepts, often in more meaningful ways than writing papers or taking exams. Rigor looks different—it’s not about how much you can memorize, but how well you live out what you’ve learned.
How do I know I’m learning the right things?
You’ll work with a team of mentors—often including a faculty member, someone from your ministry context, and a spiritual guide—who walk with you to ensure you’re meeting clear learning outcomes that are rooted in Scripture, ministry best practices, and the mission of The Wesleyan Church.
Will I still study Scripture, theology, and church history?
Absolutely. Our program doesn’t eliminate core theological learning—it integrates it more deeply into your ministry context. You’ll still engage Scripture and theology rigorously, but with a focus on how it forms you and equips you for faithful leadership.
How is this different from a traditional program?
In a traditional model, you typically follow a set sequence of courses, attend lectures, and complete assignments for grades. In our program, you work with a mentor team to develop and demonstrate specific competencies in ways that connect to your calling and context. The pace, content, and learning experiences are shaped around your needs and goals.
What makes your program a good fit for someone in active ministry?
Our program is designed with working pastors and ministry leaders in mind. Instead of taking you out of your context, it treats your ministry as your classroom. You don’t have to step away from your calling to be equipped for it—you’ll grow right where you’re already serving.
How do I know if I’m making progress?
Your progress is measured by how well you demonstrate growth in specific areas. You’ll have regular conversations with your mentor team and clear outcomes that help you (and them) discern where you're thriving and where more development is needed. As you do so, you will get grades and complete courses and these will show up on your TWC or Kairos transcript.
Can I transfer in previous education or ministry experience?
Yes! If you’ve done previous formal education or have substantial ministry experience, your mentor team will help you reflect on what you’ve already learned and determine how that fits with each program outcome. We value your journey and want to build on it, not start from scratch.
What kind of degrees are offered through your program?
We offer fully accredited degrees ranging from undergraduate degrees in ministry to master’s and even doctoral programs. Each degree includes outcomes in areas like biblical literacy, theological reflection, leadership, spiritual formation, and more—always tailored to your vocation and goals.
Is there still academic content and reading involved?
Yes, but how you engage with content depends on your learning style and goals. You’ll still read books, engage Scripture deeply, and interact with theological ideas, but always in ways that connect to your ministry and the people you serve.
How flexible is the program with time commitments?
Very flexible. Since learning happens in your context and at your pace, you can move faster or slower depending on your life and ministry. Some students spend 10–15 hours a week, while others adjust their rhythm depending on the season they’re in.
Who chooses my mentor team, and what do they do?
You get to invite people you trust into your mentor team—perhaps a pastor, a colleague, or a wise leader in your life. One mentor will be a faculty member, assigned by Foundry Seminary based on you and your ministry context. Together, they support your formation, offer feedback, and help you discern next steps throughout the journey.
What happens if my ministry context changes mid-program?
That’s okay—life changes, and our program adapts with you. Whether you move to a new church, take on a new role, or enter a different season, your mentor team will help adjust your learning plan to fit your new context while staying aligned with your goals.
How do I know this is theologically grounded?
Our program is rooted in Scripture, shaped by the historic Christian faith, and guided by a vision of whole-life discipleship. You’ll explore Wesleyan theological truths in community, always with the goal of living them out in your life and leadership.
Can I go through the program alongside others?
Yes! Many students choose to walk through the program in cohorts, local church teams, or learning communities. You’ll also regularly connect with other students around the world through gatherings, conversations, and shared learning experiences.
